DESCRIPTION:

The Production Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the build, repair and maintenance functions in the shop. This includes inventory and work order processes, cost control of the shop budget, managing equipment turnaround, as well as supervision and mentoring of all the shop employees.  The Production Manager manages a team of technicians and carpenters to ensure that builds and repairs are performed efficiently, cost effectively, on schedule and to the satisfaction of the customer. The Production Manager must organize shop activities in a neat, clean and safe manner to meet scheduled delivery time and is also expected to communicate this information habitually to the rest of the related Astound departments to ensure that all of the quality standards and deadlines are being met. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly shop personnel scheduling based on job requests and workflow from Operations Manager
  • Assists with providing estimator labour and materials cost quotations for custom build projects
  • Oversees construction of all exhibit properties and other custom build projects for resale or for rental
  • Oversees all employees and subcontractors who are called in to the shop
  • Oversees the build of exhibit properties and other custom build projects
  • Consults on feasibility of custom build projects
  • Reviews work orders and ensures clear instructions, including plans/drawings if required, are provided to carpenters and/or vendors
  • Responsible for recruiting, negotiating and developing a working relationship with subcontractors in trades related to custom builds
  • Oversees the maintenance of appropriate minimum levels of raw materials inventory
  • Produce CAD drawings as required
  • Uses shop standards and techniques for builds and repairs
  • Maintain and update Operational Overview schedule based on information from Salesforce
  • Ensure shop equipment and personnel adhere to all safety guidelines as set forth by WSIB
  • Ensure quality of finished products before shipping
  • Liaises with PMs and detailing to ensure job requests and detailing are communicated to the shop in a clear, concise and timely fashion
  • Communicates and liaises with other team members in the shop and warehouse

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Skilled carpenter
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage and motivate a crew of carpenters
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and Outlook
  • Can read blueprints and CAD Drawings
