A Conversation with Christina Ramirez

I started at ASTOUND as an entry level accounting clerk, eager to learn about ASTOUND and the accounting processes. I really enjoy the environment and the opportunity I have been given to grow. During the pandemic, I was promoted to Accounting Analyst allowing me the opportunity to take on increased responsibility. My role has really evolved and grown throughout the pandemic. It’s been a great opportunity and I’m excited to continue my journey at ASTOUND.

POSITIVE INDUSTRY CHANGES

I have noticed more women taking a 'seat at the table.' It’s been organic as more women are moving up the ladder at a faster pace than they used to.

At ASTOUND, we have several women in leadership and decision-making positions. These female leaders are setting an example for the next generation by showing that through hard work you can now obtain the same opportunities as your male counterpart.

WHY ASTOUND?

My favorite part of working for ASTOUND is the people and the environment, the relationships and teamwork, we are a family. The ASTOUND atmosphere keeps me going. We’re working as a team, towards a common goal. Our teammates push each other forward and match one another’s energy.

FINDING WORK-LIFE BALANCE

As a single parent, work-life balance is extremely important for me. ASTOUND has been flexible with my work schedule, allowing me pick my daughters up from school and finish the day at home. I am even able to bring my daughters to the office, which is phenomenal. ASTOUND has given me flexibility that is crucial to balancing my home and work life.

ADVICE FOR YOUNGER YOU

The struggles and obstacles you endure you will overcome and they will make you into the woman you become. Keep pushing through; the challenges are toughening you up and shaping you into the woman you will become.

ADVICE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

My advice for women entering the workforce is always advocate and negotiate for yourself. Advocate for yourself, there won’t always be someone advocating for you. Speak up and be heard!

HOW I BECAME A STRONG BUSINESS WOMAN

Paving my own path. My path was not the most conventional. I was not given the opportunity to complete high school. I passed the GED and haven’t let anything hold me back. I learned on the job versus a traditional accounting education. I trust my experience, instincts and perspective. Each role has taught me new skills and given me the ability to tackle more responsibilities. Don’t let anything or anyone hold you back.

I believe my non-conventional path has given me fresh eyes and is a strength, not a weakness.
