Cloud Sculpture

Local Canadian artist, Tim Forbes, was in need of a reliable fabrication partner that could help realize his organic forms into larger sculptures.

Working in close collaboration, ASTOUND engineered and designed an oversized version of the artist’s initial concepts for fabrication that would withstand years of harsh weather conditions and general wear and tear. Fabrication from a hand-sized clay maquette to a large-scale work involved 3D modeling, CNC carving of high-density foam to create a layered form, and hand-finishing of complex curves before proceeding to fiberglass encasing, premium paint finished, and protective UV coatings. Foam helped to keep overall weight down, eliminating the need for cranes or helicopters for install.

The finished sculpture is located on the 13th floor rooftop of the ArtShoppe Lofts & Condos in Toronto.
