The Bentway

OVERVIEW:

The Bentway is a unique and innovative public space that transforms 1.75km underneath Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway into a new gathering place for our city’s growing population—offering year-round activities and events, including gardens, a skate trail, recreational amenities, public markets, public art, special exhibitions, festivals, theatre and musical performances, and more. The initial phase ties together seven local neighbourhoods with over 70,000 residents, while providing access to important attractions and destinations along the waterfront.

EXPERIENCE:

Throughout the day and into the evening, visitors can enjoy the remarkable skate trail on a pair of ice skates or safely in the lounge. Visitors have the option of bringing their own skates or renting a pair of skates from one of the custom outfitted shipping containers located on-site. A number of additional shipping containers have been outfitted as covered benches where visitors can safely take their skates on and off. Through the winter season and beyond, a variety of events and workshops are hosted at The Bentway in support of local artisans and musicians.
